Cancer Screening

Adagio Health has always been involved in breast and cervical cancer screening as part of its women's health care services. Breast Self Examination (BSE) instruction, Clinical Breast Exams (CBE), pelvic exams and Pap tests are provided at offices throughout western Pennsylvania. Mammography is provided at FDA-certified facilities in each county.

In 1990, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) initiated the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Education and Detection Project (NBCCEDP). This nationwide program aims at reducing deaths from breast and cervical cancers through education, outreach, and screening. In Pennsylvania, the state Department of Health received funding for this initiative and developed a project known as "HealthyWoman."

Adagio Health is the sole provider of HealthyWoman programs for more than twenty counties of western Pennsylvania. Through HealthyWoman, eligible women can receive free breast and cervical cancer screening.

In order to provide screening services to a broader range of women, Adagio Health sought additional funding. The Komen Pittsburgh RACE FOR THE CURE ® Mammogram Voucher Program (MVP) became a partner, providing additional resources for:

  • Screening mammograms for all women 40 and over who cannot afford them
  • Diagnostic services for all women in the program identified with breast abnormalities
  • Educational forums about breast health to be provided throughout the region
  • Access to the Internet through the Breast Cancer Information Service (BCIS)
  • Opportunity to participate in Pennsylvania's largest foot race - the Mother's Day 5K in Pittsburgh

In addition to cancer screening, Adagio Health sites provide follow-up and referral.
