Adagio Health knows how important parents are. That's why so many programs are devoted to helping parents develop their skills.

Family Connections

It can be difficult for parents to talk to their children about issues like puberty, relationships, and sex. That's why Adagio Health's Center for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention developed the Family Connections guidebooks.

Family Connections guidebooks are both quick and easy-to-read, blending useful information with helpful tips. Best of all, since children of all ages can ask hard questions, Family Connections is available in three age-specific guides for parents of children birth to 7, 8 to 13, and 14 to 18 years old. Topics include:

  • child development
  • communication
  • sharing values
  • puberty
  • sexual abuse
  • teen pregnancy
  • sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • contraception

Parents throughout western Pennsylvania can obtain Family Connections for free. Organizations can order larger quantities of the guidebooks for a nominal fee. Contact CAPP for details. Requests can be placed by mail or phone; an order form is available.

CAPP has also developed a parent education program to support parents interested in using the Family Connections guidebooks. Workshops teach parents specific strategies to use when talking with their children about these difficult issues. In addition, interested parents can be trained in how to teach other parents in their communities how to use the guidebooks.
